CELEBRATING HAITI INDEPENDANCE DAY

1st January each year marks Haiti Independance Day. On that day in 1804, Haiti officially became the world's first Black republic and now over 13 million Haitians around the world celebrate the landmark day each year.

WHAT FOOTBALL MEANS TO HAITI

A member of FIFA since 1934, CONCACAF since 1961 and the Caribbean Football Union (CFU) since 1978, football has long been a unique force in binding Haiti together. Haiti have appeared in the finals of the FIFA World Cup on one occasion during the 1974 tournament hosted in West Germany.

Whether in the stadiums under the lights or in the streets in the shadows, football provides freedom and joy for Haitians. This sport embodies the motto written on the Haitian flag: L’Union Fait La Force (Unity is Strenght). The beautiful game truly unifies.

In 2021, soup joumou was added to the UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage List. L’Union Fait la force.
